NCAT CREATE ALUMNI ARTIST WORKSHOP

Gumnut in Blue Bowl by  ©Alix Hunter
Just prior to lockdown, ex NCAT Create student Alix Hunter presented an inspiring still-life painting workshop to Create's second year Diploma of Visual Arts students. The students who have been doing an extended painting unit, spent the day investigating alla prima (wet on wet) techniques to produce a carefully observed still-life oil painting. The students produced amazing small scale still-life paintings under Alix's gentle guidance. With the student's still-life setups illuminated by lamps it made the grey and wet day bright and cosy!

After her time at Create, Alix has gone on to become a very successful still-life painter who exhibits widely. She most recently showed work with Michael Reid Galleries Sydney  -Studio Direct, selling out prior to the opening!

"Alix paints slow, considered observations of the everyday. She is especially moved by light, form and shape. Her work celebrates space and simplicity. She plays with objects, their relationships to each other and the spaces between them. Hunter is drawn by texture, colour and tone. She has a great love for the Australian bush and her work often incorporates organic form from the Merri Creek near her inner city studio". (Reprinted with thanks via her website alixhunter.com)
